There’s Nothing Wrong With Promoting Your Website

If you were to believe verbatim all the advice that comes out of the Googleplex, you’d think it was downright evil to promote your website in any way shape or form.  From the advice Serge, Larry, and Matt spout, you’d think all you had to do was build wonderful content, and visitors would be knocking down your door.  Or perhaps I should stay, bring your host server to it’s knees.  Well, I’m here to tell you that the most important tool you have for promoting your website is your brain.  And to add to that oh so obvious piece of advice, if you don’t move mountains to do everything in your power to promote your site, then your a fool.  Sure, building great content is a start, but you need to get the word out.  That could be through article marketing, directory submission, AdWords, social networking, and even handing out business cards with your website on it.

Some of those are new ways of marketing, some are as old as the hills, and some fall somewhere in between.  Using a directory submitter, for example is one technique that used to be popular, but has fallen somewhat out of favor lately.  I say, that’s a perfect reason why you should be doing it.  It sets you apart from the crowd, and diversifies your marketing campaign a little bit.  Diversity is especially important these days, as it improves your chances of minor search engine algorithm tweaks from upsetting your serp standings.  At the very least, it should minimize any sudden drops.  Directory submission software is really a good idea if your going to use this technique.  It minimizes your effort, and maximizes your results.  Especially if your a one person shop.

  • Yes, I agree. It seems that some of the bigger players on the scene like Google really want to deter everyone from doing a little marketing. You don’t find good sites like http://www.samarajames.com/ if they don’t spend time putting themselves out there.
